PEACH DOUBLE Blackboy & April White™

Double Grafted Peach

0 Ratings

Waimea Nurseries grows a range of fruit trees with two or three varieties on the one tree. Some fruit types are grown with both varieties grafted at the bottom of the tree trunk, while others are grown as tiers of branching. The method of propagation is based on the natural habit of the fruit types, to ensure a good shaped tree will result. The tree should be labelled with a small mark of paint to identify which part of the tree each variety is located. This also helps to avoid the potential of accidently pruning off one of the varieties!

Blackboy: Port wine skinned, medium sized fruit with wine red melting flesh.  A popular variety for eating fresh and bottling.  Good home garden tree. Late season.

April White: A delicious white firm fleshed large peach that has an attractive pink blush.  The tree is of medium vigour with a high resistance to Leaf Curl.  Heavy cropper late in the season.

PLANTING SITE

Sunny, sheltered and frost free position.

CLIMATE

WATERING

Water well during the early stages, during long dry periods and when the fruit is developing.

PESTS & DISEASES

Stonefruit require a spray program, particularly during spring, to prevent the likes of die back, bacterial disease and leaf curl.

PLANTING IDEAS

Stonefruit trees can be ‘espalier’ trained against a wall or fence in a fan shape.

FRUIT

Varieties range in ripening time from early to late Summer.

POLLINATION

All varieties are self fertile.

TREE SIZE

Stonefruit trees can range from 3-6m in height.
