All Loquat varieties are self fertile. 

Grown on BA29 pear rootstock – Semi vigorous growing to 4/5 meters.

SOIL

Prefers well drained fertile soil.

PLANTING SITE

Sunny and sheltered is best. Plant 3-4m apart from other trees.

CLIMATE

Loquats grow best in warmer regions, as far south as Nelson/Tasman.  

WATERING

Water well during the early years, during long dry periods and when the fruit is developing.

PESTS & DISEASES

Loquats are usually free of pests and diseases, though is a host of fireblight. 

PLANTING IDEAS

Loquat trees make an attractive specimen tree with it's large tropical-like foliage. 

FRUIT

Loquats ripen in early summer when the skin turns to a vibrant yellow/orange. Get in quick before birds decimate the crop! 

POLLINATION

All varieties are self fertile. 

TREE SIZE

Height up to 4-5m.

RECOMMENDED PRUNING SYSTEM

Naturally grows into a tree with rounded head. Very little pruning is required.
