How to Guide

Grow Nectarines

SOIL

Prefers well drained fertile soil.

PLANTING SITE

Sunny, sheltered and frost free position is best. Plant 4-5m apart from other stonefruit trees.

WATERING

Water well during the early stages, during long dry periods and when the fruit is developing.

CLIMATE

Grow best in climates with a cool Winter, but not subject to hard frosts or prolonged wet weather in Spring.

PESTS & DISEASES

Stonefruit require a preventative spray program. Minimum requirements are a strong copper spray at leaf drop, followed by two more sprays in Spring at bud movement and ten days later.

PLANTING IDEAS

Stonefruit trees can be ‘espalier’ trained against a wall or fence in a fan shape.

FRUIT

Varieties range in ripening time from early to late Summer.

POLLINATION

All varieties are self fertile, and will set good crops on their own.

TREE SIZE

Stonefruit trees can range from 3-6m in height.

RECOMMENDED PRUNING SYSTEM

Open centre/vase shape.
