Magnolia

A large aristocratic group of predominantly deciduous flowering trees and shrubs. Require acid soils, full sun, summer moisture and shelter from strong winds.

M. Charles Raffill
Large scented blooms rose purple outside and white flushed pinkish purple inside, burst from deep rose pink buds in early spring on naked branches. Vigorous growing spreading tree. 7 x 5m

M. denudata
One of the most beautiful species with elegant, ivory white flowers with a rich sweet perfume displayed to perfection on bare branches in early spring. Forms a smaller tree. 5 x 4m AGM

M. kobus
A tough Magnolia species with masses of starry white delicately perfumed flowers in spring. Has been sucessfully used as an avenue tree in many parts of the world. 6 x 4m

Malus - Crabapples

Rising again in the popularity stakes and deservedly so! Prunus - Flowering Cherries

Oriental flowering cherries are the undisputed aristocrats of flowering trees. Few trees can match their abundance and magnificence of floral display. Many also have attractive foliage, bold form, interesting stem texture and great autumn colour.

Outstanding strong and larger growing tree with spreading habit and profuse flowering. Semi double rich pink flowers in pendulous clusters help herald the arrival of spring. Vivid autumn colours. AGM

THE MILKY WAY CHERRY Ideal small, columnar tree where height but not width is wanted. Erect branches bear clusters of fragrant semi-double shell pink flowers in mid spring. Nice foliage. AGM

Slender arching branches clothed in pale pink blossom in mid spring. Ideal weeping cherry for smaller gardens.

hillieri Spire
This cherry has been described as possibly the best small stree tree raised in the twentieth century. The upright conical shape and narrow habit make this tree excellent for small gardens and for avenue planting. Attractive single flowers create a soft pink cloud in early spring. Kanzan

A double-flowering pink cherry that has an initially upright growth habit but later develops a spreading crown.

ROSE BUD CHERRY A small, weeping, mushroom shaped tree of immense beauty. A profusion of rich pink buds opening to pale blush single flowers in mid spring. Regarded by many as the best weeping flowering tree. AGM

Very early dainty clear pink flowers on a small tree. Well suited to smaller gardens and lining driveways in milder areas.

Pink Perfection

Southern Gem

Tilia - Limes

COMMON LIME Cross between the other two species listed. The familiar avenue tree and mostly widely planted lime. Forms a large, vigorous tree with zig zag shoots and broad leaves. 20 x 10m

Tilia platyphylllos
BROAD LEAVED LIME A large noble tree widely planted in England and Europe. Superb pleached or used in avenue plantings. Makes a fine specimen wherever space permits. 20 x 10m

 

Ulmus - Elms

The elms include some of the noblest of trees. They are hardy and thrive in most soils and situations.

Ulmus carpinifolia Variegata
VARIEGATED ELM This beautiful specimen tree has an upright slender habit opening with age. Densely speckled cream foliage. Tolerates windy conditions.


Ulmus parvifolia
CHINESE ELM One of the most splendid elms, forming a smallish tree with small, leathery and glossy green leaves that persist well into winter. Ideal as shade or avenue trees for lining driveways or along road frontages. Tough. 6 x 4m


Ulmus procera Louis van Houtte
